The Sorcerers Apprentice

Let's begin this by saying that I found this to be one of the best movies I've seen Cage in, in quite some time.

The movie wasn't bad, could have been a lot better if they would have put a lot more effort into writing a better story. It seemed to be a first or second draft. Not ready to shoot yet.

The opening montage with the back story proved that to me. Kinda bland and cliche. Arch Wizard has three apprentices two male and one female. Both guys want the girl, one betrays them and out of jealously apparently to the big bad.

The conflict goes on somewhat through the ages, as the great wizard at the time of his death so many years ago, leaves a 'gift' to his brightest and tells him a chosen one will show himself someday and the 'gift' in this case his ring will show him who.. And only the chosen one can defeat said big bad yadda yadda..

I know this comes of making the movie sound really bad. It wasn't, just not great. But certainly one of Cages best roles recently. I totally bought him as Balthazar the Sorcerer.

I'd give it a 2.5 stars out of 5.. Worth seeing. Possibly wait for DVD unless the subject matter is especially appealing to you.
